Description
The Asian Cockroach looks similar in color and size to the more common German cockroach, but its wings are longer and it is able to fly. It prefers to live outdoors and will nest under dead leaves in large groups at various stages of development.
The Asian cockroach is most active at night. It is attracted to light and will fly toward lights in search of food. Once it has landed it will enter a dwelling in search of food. It may stay indoors if food is available and humidity is to its liking but usually it returns to its outdoor habitat.
Control Advice
Seal cracks in the foundation and ensure all windows and attic ventilations are covered with screens. Locate woodpiles away from the house and clear yard of leaf debris. Bring pet food in at night and cover garbage securely. Consider changing outdoor lights to the yellow ‘bug’ lights.
Active Seasons
The Asian Cockroach is most active in summer.
