Brown Dog Tick

Brown dog tick

Size

1/4″-1/2”

Color

Reddish to Dark Brown

Description

The Brown Dog Tick is slightly longer than other tick species and is most commonly found on our pet dogs but will also feed on humans and other animals. The Brown Dog Tick is able to live for up to eight months without a blood meal and can live its entire life indoors so it can be found year round in any climate.

It is important to control the Brown Dog Tick because it is known to transmit diseases such as Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever and Lyme Disease through its bite to humans. Remove ticks right away and disinfect the bite.

Control Advice

Inspect yourself and your pets regularly for the Brown Dog Tick, especially after walking through tall grasses, near shrubs or in any wooded area. Regularly inspect your pets’ bedding for signs of ticks. Keep grass cut short and reduce dense vegetation in your yard.
