Description
The Drywood Termite makes its home in wood and has little need for moisture. Winged Drywood Termites will swarm out away from the colony in late spring through early fall in search of a new colony location.
The colony is comprised of kings, queens and thousands of workers. Kings and queens provide for the reproductive needs of the colony while the young workers care for the young. Older workers feed on the wood the colony lives in and provide food for the colony while some perform the role of soldiers, defending the colony against attacks from intruders like ants.
Because they live entirely within the wood they infest drywood termites are seldom seen and often the first sign of drywood termites is a pile of tiny fecal pellets.
Control Advice
Use screens on all open windows and ventilation openings and keep wood stored away from your home.
