Description
The Ghost Ant is tiny with a black head an almost translucent pale yellow body and legs. It is a highly invasive ant, building colonies with multiple queens and thousands of workers. They are opportunistic nesters. Outside they create a nest underground, under leaves or mulch, or under tree bark. Indoors they will nest under carpet, in wall spaces, and will even make smaller nests in small spaces, traveling between nest sites to maintain the colony.
Ghost ants feed on the honeydew produced by aphids and occasionally on small insects. They create a trail between their food sources and their nests. In search of sweet foods they will venture indoors through small cracks or over tree limbs or electrical wires. If crushed or attacked they will emit a foul odor.
Control Advice
Ghost Ants avoid bait traps. Direct treatment to the mound with repeat treatments is necessary.
