Description
The ladybug is a beetle with a rounded body, short legs and antennae. Most Ladybugs have red, orange, or yellow wings with black spots. When at rest their colorful, spotted wings cover their round body.
Ladybugs are voracious eaters and most feed on plant harming insects such as aphids. Their larvae begin feeding immediately and by the end of a ladybug’s short life it will have eaten as many as 5,000 aphids or other plant pests. But a few of the about 5,000 species of ladybug are plant eaters.
Control Advice
Ladybugs are usually found outside but when indoors can easily be caught and let go outside where they can feed on plant pests in your yard. If they have taken up residence in your home, vacuum them and discard the contents away from your home. Large numbers of ladybugs indoors may indicate other pest insects are present that they are feeding on.
Active Seasons
