Description
The Paper Wasp queen builds her nest in the spring using her saliva and wood she chews from nearby trees. In urban areas she may choose a nest location tucked underneath an awning or patio cover, or in the corner of a window. She forms the nest from the wood pulp, creating an open comb of chambers that she uses to fill with her eggs.
The Paper Wasp’s sting is very painful and some people may be allergic to the venom. They are not as aggressive as some other species of wasps and will usually only attack if they feel their nest is threatened. However they often build nests in or on homes and their close proximity can lead to them feeling threatened and attack without being provoked.
Control Advice
Spray the nest with a wasp pesticide at night when they are less active or contact a professional exterminator.
