Description
Pavement Ants nest outdoors under places like rocks, logs, and leaves. They have adapted to urban environments by nesting in the soil under sidewalks and building foundations, where they push soil up through the sidewalk cracks and beside the foundation to let air into the nest. Indoors they will nest in wall spaces and under flooring.
Winged queen Pavement ants and drones swarm to mate and locate a new nesting location. a colony will include multiple queens and thousands of workers. The colonies multiple rapidly and they will move their eggs if conditions are better in another location. Pavement ants are very aggressive toward other ants and will battle to take over new ground, leaving thousands of dead ants scattered over the pavement.
Pavement ants are opportunistic feeders, eating just about anything they find and will invade homes in search of food.
