Description
Scorpions are easily recognized with a venomous stinger at the end of a tail that curves over their back. They have eight legs and range from two to six inches in length. They glow in the dark when exposed to ultraviolet light. This makes them easier to find at night for study or control.
Scorpions are most active at night and will lie in wait for an insect meal to come by. A scorpion has sensory hairs that alert it to an insect. They are most frequently found in southern states, usually in outdoors in a garden area where there are more insects. But they will also wander indoors looking for insects.
Control Advice
Seal small openings to your home, remove rocks, bricks, wood, or other areas that scorpions can hide and keep the insect growth around your home to a minimum. Shake out shoes and check clothing.
