Description
Subterranean Termite colonies live underground, coming to the surface in search of a wood food source. There will be a king, a queen and workers. A new colony grows quickly as a queen may produce up to 1,000 eggs per day.
The Subterranean Termite can be found in all states except Alaska, but prefers warmer climates over cold. If they have colonized under your home they will not be visible and will destroy the wood starting from the ground and working their way up.
Control Advice
When the colony is 3 to 5 years old it will send out swarmers about 1 /2” long in search of a new home. The swarmers discard their wings when they find a new home. If you see swarmers you may have an established colony and if you find a pile of discarded wings a new one may be trying to invade your home.
Active Seasons
