Description

The Webbing Clothes Moth is likely the most common moth you’ll find in your home and is often referred to as the Clothing Moth. The Webbing Clothes Moth lives on natural fibers, especially wool.

The male Webbing Clothes Moths’ flight looks more like a flutter while the females prefer to walk or hop. The female lays her tiny eggs as close to a food source as possible and usually dies soon after laying eggs. You may find egg casings in stored clothing, bedding, and furniture. The egg casings are sticky and can be hard to remove.

It is the larvae that feed on fibers, gaining strength for a few months up to two years before pupating into an adult.

Control Advice

Inspect fabrics regularly for egg casings, vacuum carpet and brush or vacuum furniture regularly. Dry clean your garments before storing and store in air tight plastic containers.

Active Seasons

The Webbing Clothes Moth is most active in the summer months.
