Description
There are many species of Wolf Spiders in a range of sizes. Wolf Spiders are brown, with darker markings, hairy bodies, and long legs. With eight eyes, two large eyes in the center with two smaller eyes on top and four smaller eyes below, they have keen eyesight which they use while hunting for prey. Wolf spiders will lie in wait for prey, ambushing their prey as it comes near, even giving chase for a short distance.
The female Wolf Spider carries her egg sac with her and after hatching the babies stay with her, riding on her back.
Some Wolf Spiders live in burrows, while others wander without a permanent home. Wolf Spiders are not aggressive toward humans, but will bite if provoked. If venom is released it may cause itching and irritation that may require medical attention.
Control Advice
Clear vegetation and garden timbers away from house, keep doors closed and seal outside cracks. Sticky traps can be used indoors.
Active Seasons
Wolf Spiders are most active in spring, summer and fall.
